Flash Video Difficulties

| | Comments (27) | TrackBacks (0)

We have received feedback indicating that some users are experiencing issues either installing or using the latest version of Adobe Flash player on the site. We are doing what we can to improve these issues, particularly those regarding the required Flash player upgrade. Our investigation so far has uncovered that other sites are having similar issues with Flash player upgrades. The most common culprit is believed to be a faulty Flash player installation. If you are having trouble viewing a flash video or with upgrading your Flash player we highly recommend the following:

1) Close all browser windows.
2) Uninstall Flash Player using the Adobe Flash Player Uninstaller.
Note: Some users have reported greater success if they reboot at this time.
3) Reinstall the Flash Player Plugin from Adobe.

If you continue to have a difficult time viewing Flash content on Screencast.com we want to know about it! Please contact TechSmith's Technical Support team here, or feel free to leave a comment below.

sometimes when i embed my jings the movies do not appea. I just get "Click here to use this control" and then nothing

I submitted this one through Support, but thought I would add it here for reference:

I have created a Camtasia 5 project and rendered the output as an .swf file. I uploaded that .swf file to screencast.com. When playing the flash, it runs through the recording within a few seconds, even though the recording is really > 1 minute long. As a troubleshooting step, we took the original project of the same recording and uploaded to Screencast.com through Camtasia, but it produced the same results.

Any ideas? I checked the knowledge base, but couldn't find any similar hits.

Update: Just got an answer back from the Support Center. It's a known issue with flash.

Workaround: Add audio to your track, and it should work fine. I haven't tried it out yet, but will post if that doesn't work for some reason.

Hi Paul,

I'm pleased to hear that Technical Support was able to help you out. I wanted to thank you for bringing up the issue and pointing out that we don't have it documented online. Camtasia Studio is planning an update to correct this bug soon and we've added an online help question to our support center thanks to your inquiry, http://techsmith.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/techsmith.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=1404.

Why can't I sort my files when I send them out to a customer?

Quote floater

This post is inspiring, fresh and ultra awesome! You have a very progressive looks. Reading this blog is a great pleasure.

I received an email to view one of these. Not only did it take forever to load, but it has no volume.
That may be intentional, but I doubt it as the screenshots progress slowly.
Thanks

I'm new to screencast, and i was wondering how to take the pictures i took, and out them into a file for them to be used as a desktop picture

Quote floater

Can't open took forever to download and then would not open

Quote floater

Yes, I have to uninstall, and reinstall, on a daily basis, sometimes twice a day.

Michael,

That must be frustrating! What types of problems are you seeing that indicate you need to reinstall again? Are they resolved once you've reinstalled? I am very interested to know more about what causes this; do you have a case with our support staff I could look into?

Diana,

Sorry to hear about your troubles... is it the Adobe Flash Uninstaller or Installer you're having trouble downloading or a video on Screencast.com?

Hi Frank,

While you are logged in and viewing the picture there is a link underneath it which will allow you to download the picture. From there you can set it as your desktop background as you normally would on your OS.

Hi Lauri,

Sorry to hear about your difficulty with a video we're hosting. Typically a "forever to load" issue occurs either because the video is very large (as Screencast.com does not change the size of the video) or because your connection is having issues. What type of connection do you have? Is the video still slow to load? Have you tested the speed of your connection using a tool such as http://www.speedtest.net/? We monitor the performance and connection to our servers 24 hours a day should an issue arise it is addressed immediately. Please let us know if you continue to have difficulty such that we can investigate.

Great program. I'd love to see a few addressed:

1. There should be someway to resize the video to the browser size. I'm trying to use this in the classroom and I have to scroll up and down depending on where I'm clicking on the video.

2. The five minute limit is a bit limiting...though I think this may not be a bad thing (at least from my students perspective).

3. You have to be able to embed these in different sizes. If I embed this file on my blog, it bleeds off into my sidebar. If I change the height/width in the html, I only see a quarter of the video.

4. I'd love to be able to save or share this as a file other than .swf. Let me save it to my desktop as an .avi and I'll be in love foreva.

Do not make the videos too heavy. Most people still have 512kb connections. And you could use the .flv format that is much easier to put through slow connections.

Just seeing a blank screen. Telling me to uninstall Flash and reinstall it isn't very practical when I'm on a work computer with restricted XP admi access which prevents the addition or upgrading of software.

There must be a non-Flash option for this - YouTube seem to manage...

Quote floater

Can we change the names of the videos and images to make it easier to find and use? Or even a way to tag them so they can be more easily identified?

I see so much potential here - it is exciting. I am also having the flash player hiccup.

Quote floater

I did uninstall, supposedly did "sucessfully" re-install flashplayer, re-booted and it won't open. Old Dog...no new tricks

Quote floater

Removed old flash player, downloaded and installed new one. No sound with video.

used to be able to view screencasts fine. now, when follow a jing url i see a super-tiny box which, when i click on it, starts playing the video, but it's far too small to see anything. using windows vista, IE7, FF, have uninstalled & reinstalled AFP & rebooted & still that super tiny-box is all i see.

Quote floater

Hi there.

How can I resize the video so that it actually fits onto my screen?

I am using both a laptop - and the videos I have seen so far are tiny - approx 8 x 8 cms.

Today, plugged the laptop into my monitor and the video is so large, I cannot see it all.

I am using the Pearson training sessions.

Thanks
Gail

The trouble is with Youtube or any website that uses Adobe. There is always a message stating to install the latest Adobe Flash Player when I have already done so. Therefore, I have to uninstall and reinstall anytime I want to view Youtube or any other website that uses Adobe. Kodak Gallery has a box to click on if you already have Adobe and that helps.

Hi Andy & team-

Again this hour the JING report sent to our stock market investors took forever to buffer, but did open .. the white screen was visible for probably 10-15 seconds instead of 1-2, and then came the arrow; and when play was hit; still took longer than usual for it to start.. sounds like a Server or connectivity issue again... but not down entirely as before.

My thanks for your excellent support when there are issues; you have a great team!

Our members highly value the JING product; the only issue (and it's a key one) has been the ScreenCast stability or reliable throughput for now.

regards,
gene
